I found the work quite provocative in its entirety and also in the individual painting. The Sleep portraits were the most abstract and still very arresting. The bloodied bandage works more loaded but still very powerful and leaving the viewer to fill in the narrative. I really like your definition of art as what transpires between the artist and the viewer- the spark of interpretation and transcendence of the object, I follow art very closely and recently your work has really transported me to a realm very few have even reached for in this late post- modernist period. Still thinking of the images...

What a pleasure to view such powerful work and to realize that masterful technical ability can be the catalyst in which the concept is introduced. There is no "shtik" or "catch" that sets this work apart- It is bittersweet and beautful. For me, I am drawn in first by the image, and then my mind wanders to the possible narratives-
Having once been a little girl, I amost feel as if these are portraits of myself, That sense of innocence lost and the sacrafice of joyfull spirit that was taken from me long ago is palpable. I feel connected through my own experience to this work. When I saw the show at the Crocker Museum in Sacramento, my eyes welled up, my heart started racing and I felt like falling in a heap and weeping in front of them. There was a validation of my feelings and what the work connected to- There was no guilt- I was not the inferno, I was the innocent. I am both marveled by your ability and moved by your subject matter and I thank you Gottfried.

sehr geehrter herr helnwein,
ich bin 14 jahre alt und einer ihrer größten bewunderer.
ich male selber schon seit ich denken kann über ein ähnliches thema über das sie malen.Nähmlich wie leicht die kinder durch ihre eltern bzw. medien beeinflussbar sind im negativen sowie im positiven.
ich habe schon bei zwei austelllungen mit ausgestellt, wurde aber nur wegen
meiner malerei gelobt nicht wegen dem hintergrundgedanken der mir sehr wichtig war.
da ich noch ein kind bin wird dies sowieso nicht für wichtig empfunden.
drum bräuchte ich ihre wertvollen tipps.
mit den freundlichsten grüßen die ich jemanden geben kann den ich nicht privat kenne.

Dear Mr. Helnwein, your artwork is to be admired, to be noticed and to be facinated by. You are somewhat an enigma amongst artists, one who is probably mis-understood yet everyone is still very much intrigued by your view of life through your art. To meet a mind like yours in real life would be such a privilege, if only you would visit Australia one day.
I am now trying to save enough money to now purchase a signed limited print off your site as that would be the best thing hanging of my walls.

Dieser Mann hat 1000den von Kindern beim Überleben ge- und zu einem besseren Leben verholfen, inklusive seinen beiden Anklägern! TAUSENDE von Kindern und in 35 Jahren ZWEI, die ihn der Pädophilie beschuldigen, HUNDERTE von Entlastungszeugen.
Michael Jackson ist einer der größten Superstars, die die Welt je gesehen hat, und war ein Mann, der sich für Frieden und Hoffnung einsetzte. Er besuchte Spitäler der ganzen Welt, trug die Behandlungskosten unzähliger kranker Kinder, er beschenkte sie, ludt sie zu sich ein, sprach mit ihnen und war an ihrer Seite, wenn sie starben. Er investierte in mehr Wohltätigkeitsorganisationen als jeder andere Künstler der Welt und hatte selbst solche gegründet. Mit Benefizkonzerten von unerreichten Größen und öffentlichen Auftritten machte er auf das Elend aufmerksam, aber viel mehr noch tat er im Verborgenen. Er setzte sich nicht ein, um auf sich aufmerksam zu machen, sondern, um der Taten und einer besseren Zukunft willen. Er war ein Mann mit einem unendlich großen Herzen, der viel mehr für andere übrig hatte, als für sich selbst. Michael Jackson war ein ganz wunderbarer Mensch!!!
